Mint Molotovs

The bus is in place on the land.  With that will come the ongoing battle of keeping rodents out of our living area.  We have an abundance of ground squirrels and mice on the property and it is my hope to keep them out of the bus.  One thing I remember about going to camp as a child was walking in and smelling a dead mouse.  It isn’t a good way to start the weekend.

I’ve chosen to avoid traps inside the bus, which could be our undoing.  I want to first take steps to deter them from entering.  What I’ve read is that mice hate mint.  I’m willing to give it a try.

I had the Mrs. gather a few canning jars.  I punched holes in the lids and added a wick.  Then, I filled the jars with water and added mint oil and mixed.  Within a few minutes, I could smell the mint wicking to the top of the cloth.

Hopefully, this will work.  I’ll keep you all posted.

I’ll have to remember that trick. I suppose if it does not work you could always use one of the ultrasound deterrents powered by a small solar panel.

    • Thinking about every angle. Glad you mentioned that. I may go for some mouse bucket traps outside as well.

My buddy has a trap….black cat? Or something like it. Holds like 40 mice. I’m starting with the mint and will get more serious as I go.
